Design Principles

  • Just enough

The learning modules should give you enough to get started and satisfy your curiosity

  • Just for me

The approach is to give you suggestions that fit closely to what you need. You can also contact the facilitator for guidance and help. There are also discussion groups where you can share insights as part of a wider community

  • Just in time

Ability to complete the training when you most need it. Come back again and again to refresh and embed into your everyday leadership. Join in discussion groups or contact the facilitator to help embed your learning

How have I got here?

I have worked in Leadership development for around 20 years following a career in senior management and engineering. I have worked across many sectors, and have been involved in recruitment and assessment, psychometric profiling and feedback, team and individual coaching, management and leadership training. During the Covid pandemic I have reflected a lot about how leadership development is delivered. That there is too much of a focus on the delivery of lots of content, often in a class room setting. Much of the content is interesting but not always relevant to individual managers. It also often requires time away from the office/job so in terms of effectiveness for the one or two "a-ha" moments the prevailing model does not justify the time away. Also a lot of the associated costs are taken up by venue costs rather than in the learning provision.

My future thinking

My approach has been informed by the Khan Academy ethos which I paraphrase as "you do your lessons at home and your coursework at school". So my e-learning design is based around the use of two products. One that gives a richness and engaging approach to presenting relevant content; the other enabling you to engage with me by asking questions by email, or the possibility of calls. You might also join discussion communities with others completing the course. What you will find are courses that I have curated. All of the content is from solid and robust research by academics and specialists. There are links to useful videos and other links. I am just presenting a set of tools and approaches that I have worked with over the years, and the ones that have resonated for me and others. So don't just accept what I present you with. Play with it, be curious and look further. They are just a set of tools and techniques. It's how you apply them based on the situation, the people and the context of your work that will really make the difference. Thank you for being curious so far!
